Background
The University of Michigan is seeking proposals from qualified suppliers for a modern data platform to enhance its data infrastructure. The Data Science Practice (DSP) team aims to support a more agile, scalable, and data-driven environment, addressing the evolving analytical, governance, and operational needs of a complex higher education setting.
This initiative is part of a strategic effort to replace outdated technologies with a unified, cloud-native platform that facilitates data ingestion, transformation, sharing, and collaboration across its three campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint. Work Details
The selected data platform must support a wide range of workloads including data engineering, data science, and business intelligence while ensuring robust security and cost efficiency. Key requirements include:
- Integration capabilities with both legacy on-premise systems and modern cloud architectures.
- Support for real-time data processing, machine learning integration, and self-service analytics.
- Alignment with principles of flexibility, scalability, transparency, manageability, security, and compliance.
- Enhanced governance and stewardship of institutional data.
Period of Performance
The contract will be for an initial period of three (3) years with an option to extend for an additional one (1) year period as mutually agreed upon between the University and the supplier.
Place of Performance
The services will be performed across the three University of Michigan campuses located in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint.
Bidder Requirements
Preference will be given to suppliers that are Michigan-based businesses or provide goods/services manufactured in America if they are competitively priced. Suppliers must comply with all applicable laws and regulations as well as sign necessary agreements including a Business Associate Agreement if awarded.
