Creation of Wabanaki Veterans Memorial Sculputre

Background
The Maine Arts Commission is seeking to create a Wabanaki Veterans Memorial Sculpture in Capitol Park, Augusta, ME. The project involves working with the Wabanaki sculptor Tim Shay and Nibezun to oversee the creation of a monument consisting of seven large standing stones in a half circle facing east, aligned with the position of the sun during the summer solstice.
The monument will be multi-lingual and document pre-Revolutionary War. The Maine Arts Commission has chosen to partner with Nibezun, a Wabanaki-led organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Wabanaki culture, to handle the budget and payments necessary for the project.

Work Details
