Background
The University of Maryland College Park (UMD) is the state's flagship university and a leading public research institution. The Accessibility & Disability Service (ADS) at UMD is dedicated to ensuring that no qualified individual with a disability is excluded from participation in university programs and services.

The Communication Access Services (CAS) unit under ADS provides essential communication accommodations, including American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services, to eligible students and the broader campus community. This RFP aims to identify reliable vendors who can provide certified ASL interpreters for various classes, meetings, and events.

Work Details
The contractor will provide certified American Sign Language interpreters for various university functions, including classes, campus meetings, and events. Ongoing classes should have consistent interpreters to enhance the quality of interpretation.

Most assignments exceeding 45 minutes will require two interpreters. The number of interpreters needed will depend on factors such as event duration, number of clients, topic, and format. The contractor must ensure that all interpreters are qualified and adhere to professional standards.

Period of Performance
The contract period will commence upon award and continue as specified in the final agreement, with ongoing needs for interpreting services throughout the academic year.

Place of Performance
Services will be performed at the University of Maryland College Park campus and potentially other locations as required by university events.

Bidder Requirements
Contractors must demonstrate experience in providing ASL interpreting services, including a detailed description of their hiring process for interpreters, background checks, skills assessments, training programs, and cultural sensitivity practices.

Contractors must also provide references from previous clients, particularly educational institutions. Additionally, they should comply with all relevant state laws and regulations regarding business operations in Maryland.
