Elevator Package - Health & Human Sciences Complex
Background
The University of Maryland is undertaking the construction of the Health and Human Sciences Complex at their College Park campus. This project aims to fit-out two existing core and shell buildings to serve as the primary location for their top-ranked School of Public Health. The complex will support strategic priorities such as improving public health, meeting the demand for public health professionals, and attracting related industries.

The total area of the buildings is 160,000 GSF, which will include dry and wet labs, classrooms, clinical spaces, faculty offices, graduate assistant offices, staff offices for several departments, and an activity hub for the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Work Details
The contract involves the Elevator Package for the Health and Human Sciences Complex. This early elevator award package is designed to facilitate temporary use of permanent elevators for moving construction materials before main construction activities commence.

The existing buildings have elevator shafts, pits, structural steel, and door openings already in place. The new elevators will require repair and reconfiguration to meet existing conditions. Additional trades involved in this work will include miscellaneous metals, masonry, drywall, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and telecom. These trades will be awarded in a subsequent bid package after the selected elevator contractor completes necessary planning and coordination efforts.

Period of Performance
The design phase began in mid-October 2024 and is expected to conclude in late 2025. Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2025 with early sitework followed by early elevator work in Q1 2026. Main construction on the building is expected to begin in summer 2026 and conclude by summer 2028.

Bidder Requirements
The Maryland Department of Transportation has set a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) goal of 30%, with specific subgoals: 8% for African-American owned businesses, 11% for Women-owned businesses, and 1% for Veteran-owned small business enterprises.
