Description

The purpose of this project is to replace areas of the limestone within two treatment cells, with new high calcium carbonate limestone. The existing limestone, which has become clogged and armored with metal precipitates, will be stockpiled adjacent to the site where it can dry and weather, resulting in the metal precipitates flaking off rendering the stone reusable. The location of this project is at the Maryland Department of the Environment at 160 South Water Street, Frostburg, Maryland 21532.The project also includes the installation of any necessary sediment and erosion control components and revegetation. Any damage to the access road caused by limestone delivery and/or construction vehicle traffic shall be fixed by the contractor at no expense to the Department of General Services (DGS) and the Maryland Department of the Environment, Abandoned Mine Land Division (AMLD).
Background

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Remove existing limestone from designated areas within the treatment cells and stockpile it as specified in the contract drawings.
2. Place approximately 883 tons of new high CaCO3 limestone into Treatment Cell #1 and approximately 1617 tons into Treatment Cell #2, adhering to specified lines and grades.
3. Install necessary sediment and erosion control components, including a stabilized construction entrance, silt fences, and temporary sediment traps as per Maryland Standards for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control.
4. Repair any damage to access roads caused by delivery and construction activities at no expense to the Department of General Services (DGS) or the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Period of Performance
The contract is expected to commence upon approval and is scheduled for completion by July 11, 2024.

The project will take place at the Maryland Department of the Environment located at 160 South Water Street, Frostburg, Maryland 21532, specifically near McHenry in Garrett County.
