The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) is seeking one or more interpreters to provide in-person visual communication/American Sign Language (ASL) services for a deaf and intellectually disabled Individual residing at the Potomac Center facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. The Potomac Center is a residential care facility for intellectually disabled adults who may have co-existing mental disorders. ASL Interpreter services are required on-site during the deaf individuals' waking hours, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily for seven (7) days per week, including holidays. Services can be broken down into multiple shifts/between multiple interpreters if desired. For special circumstances, such as off-ground medical/dental appointments, community outings, or court appearances, the interpreter(s) shall be required to accompany the deaf individual to which they are assigned.The contract term is one (1) month, effective February 1, 2024 through February 29, 2024.
Background
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) is seeking one or more interpreters to provide in-person visual communication/American Sign Language (ASL) services for a deaf and intellectually disabled Individual residing at the Potomac Center facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. The Potomac Center is a residential care facility for intellectually disabled adults who may have co-existing mental disorders. The goal of the Potomac Center is to promote personal growth and productivity by enhancing each Individual’s skills and decreasing or eliminating maladaptive or socially unacceptable behaviors to facilitate movement to the most integrated, least restrictive setting.
This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living.

Work Details
The contractor shall supply one or more interpreters daily to provide in-person, one-on-one visual communication/American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter services on-site to the deaf and intellectually disabled Individual residing at the Potomac Center. Services are required during the Individual’s waking hours, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, for seven days per week including holidays. The contract term is for the entire month of February 2024; total required hours are 464.
Interpreters are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the Potomac Center. For special circumstances, such as off-ground medical/dental appointments, community outings, or court appearances, the assigned interpreter shall be required to accompany the deaf individual.
The Interpreter(s) must work with the deaf individual to gain understanding of that individual’s own version of sign language.

Period of Performance
The contract term is one month, effective February 1, 2024 through February 29, 2024.

Place of Performance
The geographic location for performance is at the Potomac Center located at 1380 Marshall Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
