Malden River Works

Background
The City of Malden is undertaking the Malden River Works project, which aims to improve the existing Department of Public Works (DPW) yard and construct a new riverfront public park along the Malden River. This initiative aligns with the city's mission to enhance community spaces and environmental sustainability.

Work Details
The project includes a range of improvements such as:
- A secondary driveway
- New visitor and employee parking areas
- Green stormwater infrastructure
- Drainage infrastructure
- Landscaping
- Tree-lined paved pathways with lighting connecting visitors to the new riverfront park.

The park will feature a plaza area, an open lawn area, and amenities including bike racks, picnic tables, benches, and lighting. A segment of the Malden River Greenway multi-use path will traverse the park, along with an accessible pathway leading to a new floating dock.

Additionally, upgrades to the DPW yard will involve stormwater drainage infrastructure improvements and formalized storage for materials. Other enhancements include designated parking areas for employees and DPW equipment, installation of fences and gates, and lighting throughout the site. The project also requires handling and management of soil in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) regulations.

Period of Performance
The contract work is expected to commence following the bid opening on April 2, 2025, with specific timelines to be determined during contract negotiations.
