FY26 Environmental Justice Capacity Building Grant RFR

Background
The Massachusetts Office of Environmental Justice and Equity (OEJE) is dedicated to ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of environmental and energy benefits and burdens. The FY 2026 Environmental Justice Capacity Building Grant aims to support community organizations working with communities most affected by climate change, enhancing their capacity to engage effectively with government and public services.

Work Details
The OEJE will provide grants of up to $100,000 for initiatives that build organizational capacity in environmental justice communities. Proposals can focus on:

1) Building Capacity for Environmental Justice Communities through strategic initiatives such as professional development, training workshops, and mentorship programs;

2) Empowering Environmental Justice Communities by fostering relationships, conducting community needs assessments, and organizing civic participation events;

3) Enhancing Environmental Justice through technological improvements like upgrading IT systems and developing community-based research projects.

All activities must demonstrate a public benefit and advance the principles of environmental justice.

Period of Performance
The contract period will commence upon execution by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) and must be completed by June 30, 2026.

Place of Performance
The grant activities are expected to be carried out within Massachusetts, specifically targeting environmental justice communities.

Bidder Requirements
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations (501(c)(3)) and other community organizations focused on environmental justice, indigenous, and tribal communities. Collaborative proposals are encouraged. No matching funds are required for this grant.
