Boone County Bridge Guardrail Replacement

Background
The Boone County Fiscal Court is seeking bids for the replacement of wood guardrails for three bridges in Boone County. The Boone County Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining guardrails on all county-maintained bridges and has identified three bridges with wood railings that have exceeded their useful life. The goal of this contract is to replace these existing wood railings with a powder-coated steel guardrail system that meets Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards.

Work Details
The contractor will be required to replace the existing wood railing, posts, post attachments, terminal sections, and pedestrian railings with a new powder-coated steel guardrail system. The pedestrian railing may be made from alternative materials as long as they comply with OSHA standards for fall protection. The project includes the following specific tasks:

1) Removal of existing wood guardrails;
2) Installation of new powder-coated W-Beam guardrail systems rated MASH TL-2;
3) Installation of pedestrian fall protection railings;
4) Compliance with safety regulations including OSHA and MUTCD;
5) Restoration of any disturbed landscape or vegetative areas post-construction;
6) Disposal of all removed materials from the site;
7) Submission of product information and technical submittals for review prior to commencing work.

Period of Performance
The contract is expected to be awarded on or before February 18, 2025, with a substantial completion date set for June 15, 2025, and final completion by June 30, 2025.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at three specified bridge locations in Boone County, Kentucky.
