RFP 25-003 Fiber Replacement - ERate

Background
Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a K-12 public school district in Kansas seeking proposals to replace and upgrade its existing fiber optic infrastructure. The goal of this contract is to enhance network performance by replacing the current 62.5-micron multimode fiber optic cable with Single Mode fiber, ensuring future-proof connectivity for the district. This procurement is funded through the eRate program and must comply with all applicable eRate guidelines.

Work Details
The awarded vendor will be responsible for:
- Furnishing and installing Armored 6-strand Single Mode fiber optic cabling at 28 different buildings, covering a total of 86 fiber runs throughout the district.
- Removing existing multimode fiber where necessary.
- Ensuring proper installation, termination, and testing of new fiber cabling.
- Compliance with industry standards for fiber installation and connectivity, including minimal disruption to school operations during installation.

Technical Requirements include:
- Fiber Type: Armored 6-strand Single Mode
- Termination: LC connectors unless specified otherwise
- Optics: Provide 110 Cisco LRM 10 gig SFP optics.
- Testing & Certification: Conduct bi-directional OTDR and power meter testing on all fiber runs with documented results provided to KCKPS.
- All fiber runs must be clearly labeled at both ends.
- A minimum 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on materials and workmanship is required.

Period of Performance
The RFP was issued on February 10, 2025, with proposals due by March 12, 2025. The evaluation period will take place from March 13 to March 17, 2025, followed by Board of Education approval on March 25, 2025. The project start date is yet to be determined.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed across various locations within the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools district, specifically at 28 different school buildings.
