Background
The Illinois State Board of Education is issuing a sole source contract to The College Board to provide Advanced Placement Tests at a reduced cost for qualifying low-income students. This initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers for students taking AP exams in Spring 2025, thereby enhancing educational opportunities and access to college credit through AP courses.
Work Details
The College Board will provide Advanced Placement Exams at a reduced rate for qualifying low-income students. The districts will order the AP exams in November 2024, and students will take the exams in May 2025. The College Board will invoice Illinois school districts based on fee reductions and expected state reimbursements. For public school students qualifying for the fee reduction, ISBE will pay:
- A minimum of $31 per AP Exam (excluding AP Seminar and AP Research Exam)
- A minimum of $79 per AP Seminar and AP Research Exam
The maximum fee invoiced to a public school for any fee-reduced student for an AP Exam is $22. The Illinois State Board of Education is not financially responsible for unused exams.
Period of Performance
The contract is set as a one-time purchase with services required by November 1, 2024, and examinations conducted in May 2025.
