Background
The City of Fort Madison, Iowa, is seeking proposals from qualified contractors for the demolition and site preparation of two residential properties located at 2216 Avenue L and 2220 Avenue L. This project aims to prepare the site for the construction of a new Fire Station, which requires complete demolition of existing structures and proper site grading to meet future building standards.

Work Details
The selected contractor will be responsible for:

1. Complete demolition and removal of all above-ground and below-ground structures, including basements, footings, and foundations at the specified locations.

2. Removal of a large tree and its root system to prevent future construction interference.

3. Disconnecting and capping utilities (gas, water, sewer, electricity) in coordination with local providers.

4. Backfilling excavated areas according to State of Iowa SUDAS standards, ensuring clean, compactable fill is used, with compaction testing conducted by a certified geotechnical firm.

5. Grading the site for positive drainage and applying erosion control as necessary.

6. Providing temporary fencing and safety signage during demolition operations.

7. Managing traffic controls if required during the demolition process.

8. Submitting a final site grading and compaction report upon project completion.

Period of Performance
The project may not begin until a Notice to Proceed is issued, with completion expected by August 31, 2025.

The work will be performed at the properties located at 2216 Avenue L and 2220 Avenue L in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must provide proof of licensure and insurance with their proposal, including Commercial General Liability Insurance coverage of at least $2 million per occurrence. Proposals should also include detailed cost estimates with line items for various tasks such as structure demolition, utility disconnection, tree removal, backfill & compaction, erosion control & grading, mobilization & cleanup.
