Updating Honolulu Tree Standards and Practices for Urban and Community Forestry

Background
The City and County of Honolulu, through its Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency, is seeking to update its urban forestry standards and practices. This initiative aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, including rising temperatures and declining urban tree canopy coverage.

The City has allocated a budget of $300,000 for this project to ensure that its planning guidance aligns with urban forestry goals and enhances community resilience.

Work Details
The contractor will provide services to review and assess current urban forestry rules, standards, regulations, and practices in Honolulu. Key tasks include:
1) Researching best practices in urban forestry management from other jurisdictions;
2) Engaging stakeholders through meetings and workshops;
3) Developing policy recommendations for improved city tree rules;
4) Implementing a community engagement strategy to gather public input on proposed changes.

Deliverables include an inventory of best practices, stakeholder engagement summaries, detailed policy recommendations, and communication materials for public outreach.

Period of Performance
The contract will be performed over a period of eighteen (18) months from the Notice-to-Proceed date.

Place of Performance
The services will be performed within the City and County of Honolulu, Hawai'i.
