Background
The City and County of Honolulu is seeking to upgrade the lift gate and control system for four lift gates at the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Headquarters. The current lift gates are outdated and no longer manufactured, necessitating this replacement to ensure continued access control from S. Beretania Street to the parking garage. The project aims to enhance security and operational efficiency at the facility.
Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the removal and disposal of existing equipment, including two Federal APD Model G-89 gates and two Magnetic Model MIB30 gates. The work includes:
1. Conducting a hazardous materials survey prior to demolition.
2. Removing existing gates one lane at a time, disconnecting power and control cables, and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
3. Installing new lift gates with articulating arms that meet specified requirements, including:
- Three right-handed and one left-handed lift gate with 9-foot arms painted red and white for visibility.
- LED lighting on arms, breakaway features, and compliance with various safety codes (ADAAG, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
4. Installation of a new control system for each gate that includes manual input options, wireless operation capabilities, vehicle detection systems to prevent accidents during operation, and compliance with vehicle management systems.
5. Final acceptance of work will be determined by the Officer-in-Charge after testing for compliance with contract specifications.
Period of Performance
The contract term is six months from the Notice to Proceed date, with potential extensions not exceeding four additional months.
