Background
The Hawaii State Hospital (HSH) is part of the Department of Health (DOH), Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD), providing adult inpatient psychiatric services.
The hospital primarily serves patients committed by the judicial system and is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). HSH is seeking proposals from qualified applicants to deliver clinical pharmacy services to enhance patient care and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Work Details
The contractor will provide a comprehensive range of clinical pharmacy services, including:
1) Reviewing the drug dispensing system to ensure safe drug therapy;
2) Implementing an internal self-auditing program shared quarterly with HSH leadership;
3) Making recommendations for patient care improvements, including drug selection and dosing adjustments;
4) Establishing quality assurance programs to monitor drug therapy outcomes;
5) Participating in transition of care programs for patients moving to outpatient services;
6) Attending pharmacy-related committees at HSH;
7) Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and assisting in maintaining TJC accreditation;
8) Acting as a drug consultant for medical staff;
9) Providing costs for automated dispensing machines (ADMs);
10) Ensuring timely delivery of pharmaceuticals, including emergency orders within one hour;
11) Maintaining sufficient drug inventory and compliance with HSH Drug Formulary;
12) Utilizing pharmacy computerization for efficient service delivery.
Period of Performance
The estimated initial term of the contract is from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, with up to five possible extensions of twelve months each. This allows a maximum contract length of six years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
