New Varieties Development for Florida Citrus

Background
The Florida Department of Citrus intends to award a contract for New Varieties Development for Florida Citrus to the New Varieties Development and Management Corporation (NVDMC). The purpose of the contract is to provide services to the citrus industry through research and licensing programs that provide, evaluate, and prioritize Florida's need for new citrus varieties, including those needed for consumer market expansion and disease and pest tolerance.

Work Details
The primary charge of this organization is to provide timely and affordable access to new varieties for Florida citrus growers. It also aims to establish accountability within goals and objectives directed toward the development, acquisition, and management of new citrus cultivars. Additionally, it seeks to establish research priorities specific to Florida's new variety breeding stock and commercial applications. Furthermore, it will negotiate on behalf of Florida's citrus industry toward the acquisition of rights to new varieties and sublicensing of said varieties to Florida growers. The organization will also assist in the allocation of local, state, and federal resources toward the priorities, goals, and objectives related to new citrus varieties. It will continuously assess the supply & demand balance for citrus sales worldwide, monitor and structure all agreements, foreign and domestic, toward the enhanced health, well-being, and future viability of Florida's citrus industry.
