2026 Metrobus Passenger Survey

Background
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) was established in 1967 to operate a balanced regional transportation system in the National Capital area. WMATA provides safe, clean, and reliable transit services to residents and visitors, including over a third of the federal workforce and millions of tourists annually.

The Metrobus service operates on 125 routes with significant daily ridership. The purpose of the 2026 Metrobus Passenger Survey is to collect data on passenger demographics and travel patterns to inform subsidy allocation formulas and comply with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Title VI reporting requirements.

Work Details
The contractor will conduct the 2026 Metrobus Passenger Survey, which includes: preparing survey materials, recruiting and training staff, distributing printed questionnaires, collecting responses, helping customers enter data into mobile devices, implementing quality control procedures, entering data into a database, performing edit checks for data quality, and documenting survey results.

The survey will utilize three methods:
- Method #1 involves distributing paper surveys;
- Method #2 involves staff using tablets to collect responses;
- Method #3 is a hybrid approach combining both methods.

The survey will be conducted between April 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026.
