RFI - PFAS OR PFOS Evaluation of Boulder County Parks and Open Space Noxious Weed Herbicides

Background
Boulder County Parks and Open Space (BCPOS) is seeking to evaluate the herbicides used in their operations to determine if they contain or may be classified as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including PFOS.
This Request for Information (RFI) aims to gather insights from qualified vendors on methodologies and processes for such evaluations, which will inform potential future testing and solicitations.

Work Details
BCPOS is interested in receiving information from qualified laboratories regarding their capabilities, methodologies, and estimated costs for evaluating herbicide formulations for the presence of PFAS.
Specific areas of interest include:
- Analytical methods used to detect PFAS compounds in both liquid and granular pesticide formulations;
- The ability to identify total fluorine, targeted PFAS compounds, and/or unknown fluorinated constituents;
- Approaches for determining whether a product or its components may be considered PFAS or PFAS-related compounds;
- Detection limits, reporting thresholds, and data interpretation methods;
- Estimated costs for one-time and/or ongoing testing;
- Recommended sampling protocols along with any limitations or considerations.
