Background
The Cheyenne Mountain State Park Campground Addition Project is initiated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, aimed at enhancing recreational facilities at the park. The project involves the construction of a new campground at Big Bear Point, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The goal is to provide improved access and amenities for visitors, including new campsites and infrastructure to support camping activities.

Work Details
The proposed construction includes:
- Thirteen new campsites with asphalt driveways and concrete camper pads.
- Aggregate surfaced areas for tent pads, picnic tables, and fire pits.
- A main drive lane extending southwest from JL Ranch Heights Road with a cul-de-sac at its southern end.
- New sanitary sewer utilities including a sewer service force main and connections along the drive lane.
- Aggregate-surfaced drives are planned instead of paved roads, with considerations for regular maintenance to address potential erosion and displacement of materials due to vehicular loading.
- Minimum aggregate layer thicknesses are specified based on expected daily heavy truck traffic loadings (e.g., 6½ inches for 0–5 trucks, up to 14½ inches for 25–50 trucks).
- The aggregate base course material must meet CDOT Class 5 or Class 6 standards, placed in uniform lifts not exceeding 8 inches in loose thickness and compacted to at least 95% of maximum dry density as per ASTM D1557/AASHTO T-180 standards.

Period of Performance
The project is expected to commence following the completion of the geotechnical evaluation report dated August 21, 2024. An anticipated timeline for construction will be determined based on contractor schedules and project approvals.
