Background
The City of Anaheim, through its Central Purchasing Office, is seeking competitive bids for the Wildland Fire Prevention & Habitat Restoration: Managed Goat Grazing Program. The goal of this program is to reduce fire hazards by managing wildland fuel and promoting habitat restoration through controlled grazing by goats. The awarded contract will be governed by the City Master Agreement Terms & Conditions.
Work Details
The contractor will provide managed intensive goat grazing services to control and manage wildland fuel and suppress non-native plants. Responsibilities include:
- Providing all necessary labor, training, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, and support facilities for goat management;
- Transitioning through multiple paddocks (20-100 acres total);
- Maintaining public safety;
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations;
- Providing 24/7 supervision of goats by a herdsman.
Specific locations for grazing include:
- Deer Canyon Nature Preserve,
- Pelanconi Park,
- Oak Canyon Nature Center,
- Fire Station 9,
- Olive Hills Park,
- Fairmont Nature Site.
The contractor must also develop a Grazing Management Methodology Plan that includes details on goat assignment, guardian animals, containment plans, and public safety measures.
Period of Performance
The contract will have a one-year base period with up to four optional one-year renewals. Grazing activities are expected to occur primarily between March 1st and June 30th each year but may also be requested during other times as needed.
Place of Performance
Grazing will take place at designated parks in Anaheim including:
- Deer Canyon Nature Preserve (7502 E. Hollow Oak Rd.),
- Pelanconi Park (222 S. Avenida Margarita),
- Oak Canyon Nature Center (6700 Walnut Canyon),
- Fire Station 9 (6300 Nohl Ranch Rd.),
- Olive Hills Park (700 S. Nohl Canyon Rd.),
- Fairmont Nature Site.
Bidder Requirements
Bidders must hold a C27 landscaping license issued by the California State License Board (CSLB) and provide proof of this license along with DIR registration forms for mechanical brush clearance. Bidders should have at least three references from similar work performed in the past three years. Additionally, all dogs used for herd control must be properly licensed.
