Background
The City of Palo Alto is seeking proposals for the design-build services related to the replacement and upgrade of the theatrical and house lighting systems at the Lucie Stern Community Theatre. This venue, which features a 369-seat auditorium, primarily hosts stage performances and various presentations. The goal of this project is to enhance the lighting and electrical systems to improve functionality and efficiency while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Work Details
The selected Design-Build Entity (DBE) will be responsible for all aspects of the project, including:
1. Upgrading the stage/house lighting and electrical systems.
2. Providing full design services, including detailed drawings and specifications for both specialty lighting systems and electrical work.
3. Installing new production lighting dimming and control system equipment, including DMX controlled dimmers, relay panels, power distribution receptacles, control devices for architectural lighting, racks, enclosures, and network devices.
4. Performing programming and addressing of DMX controlled architectural lighting fixtures.
5. Conducting a full systems inspection of existing wiring and connectors to identify any damaged components.
6. Providing additive or deductive alternate pricing for specified bid alternates such as wiring code upgrades and house lighting replacements.
Period of Performance
The work is expected to commence on August 15, 2027, following a series of proposal evaluations and contract awards leading up to that date.

The contract will be performed at the Lucie Stern Community Theatre located at 1305 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94301.
Bidder Requirements
Proposers must possess all necessary licenses to complete the work outlined in this RFP, including: C-10 (Electrical Contractor), D-48 (Theatrical Lighting Systems Contractor), C-7 (Low Voltage Contractor). Additionally, all contractors must be registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) to perform public work as per Labor Code requirements.
