Packaged Meals and Meal Components for Department of Corrections

Background
The County of Santa Clara (County) is seeking proposals from qualified vendors to provide and deliver a variety of Packaged Meals and Meal Components to locked facilities for the County’s Department of Corrections.

The County does not guarantee any volume of products to be purchased or services to be engaged as all products and services will be ordered on an as-needed basis. The contract term will be for five (5) years unless terminated earlier or otherwise amended.

Work Details
The contractor will supply both complete Packaged Meals and individual Meal Components, which may include:

1. Packaged Meals:
- Classification: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Types: Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal, Low-Sodium, etc.
- Preparedness: Ovenable, Ready-To-Eat/Shelf-Stable, Served Cold, Frozen, Fresh and Prepared Daily
- Accompaniments: Snacks, Side Dishes, Condiments, Sauces, Bread/Rolls, Dessert, Salad, Dips, Appetizers, Dressings, Fruit, Cheese, Crackers.

2. Meal Components:
- Meat Products (Sliced, Log, Bulk Packaged)
- Beverages (Contained Liquid, Packaged Powder)
- Bread Products (Sliced Bread, Loaf)
- Other Custody Food Products.

3. All meals must meet specified nutritional standards in compliance with the 2011 Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI), the 2008 California Food Guide and the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Minimum nutritional requirements include Protein Group (14 grams or more per serving), Dairy Group (at least 250 mg of calcium), Vegetable/Fruit Group (at least six servings daily), and Grain Group.

Period of Performance
The contract will be for a term of five (5) years from the date of award unless terminated earlier or otherwise amended.

Place of Performance
Services will be performed at locked facilities within Santa Clara County.
