Wescam Wins Up to $500 Million Army Counter-UAS Marketplace Contract

Wescam USA Inc. of Nashville, Tennessee, won a U.S. Army contract worth up to $500 million to provide commercial counter-unmanned aerial system and counter-small-unmanned aerial system capabilities. The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery contract is part of an Army effort to make counter-drone equipment available for requirements as they arise. Army Contracting Command–Detroit Arsenal awarded the contract on September 28, 2026, with an estimated completion date of September 27, 2029.

Counter-UAS Contract Details

Wescam will provide counter-drone capabilities through individual Army orders. Those orders will determine the work locations and specific purchases. The award notice does not assign a quantity of equipment to the contract; its $500 million value is the amount available under the vehicle, rather than an announced equipment order.

In a September 29 announcement, the Army identified Wescam’s award as one of several contracts supporting the Counter-UAS Marketplace. Across those awards, the Army described offerings ranging from optical sights and compact radars to automated weapon stations and long-range tracking cameras. The announcement did not assign a particular product to Wescam. The Army said selections and deliveries through the marketplace will be tied to validated operational requirements and applicable test data.

Domestic Shield Background

The contracts support Domestic Shield, an effort led by Joint Interagency Task Force 401 to protect U.S. military facilities and assets prioritized by risk. The task force is using the marketplace to identify, evaluate and move commercial counter-drone systems into use more quickly. It says open-architecture standards are intended to support integration and reduce dependence on a single supplier.

The marketplace adds to a longer-running Army counter-small-UAS effort. The Army’s budget justification describes a system-of-systems approach that began in 2016 and combines detection, tracking, command and control, and ways to defeat small drones. Wescam’s contract provides a way to buy commercial capabilities within that broader acquisition environment as requirements are established.

Award and Contractor Background

The Army received 50 bids for the Wescam contract. The company has also performed other work for Army Contracting Command–Detroit Arsenal, including a $168,500 counter-UAS award for equipment and personnel supporting a Drone Dominance program test event, with performance scheduled through June 26, 2026. That earlier test-event work was much narrower in value and duration than the new contract, which allows the Army to place orders through September 2029.
