Trident Maritime Systems Wins $21 Million Navy Hull and Deck Machinery Support Contract

Trident Maritime Systems of Kingsford, Michigan, has received a Navy contract worth up to $21.2 million to supply equipment and provide engineering and technical support for hull and deck machinery aboard Navy ships. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division awarded the contract, which covers machinery used to launch and recover vehicles, handle cargo and secure ships. Work is expected to be completed by September 2031.

Hull and Deck Machinery Systems Support Details

Trident will support launch and recovery systems for rescue boats, mission boats, and unmanned underwater and surface vehicles. The Navy’s statement of work and requirement description also identify stern ramps, stern doors and gates, anchoring, mooring and towing equipment, cranes, lift platforms and platform lifts.

The work includes shipboard assessments, troubleshooting and repairs, preventive and corrective maintenance, and training. Trident will also support installations, engineering modifications and upgrades intended to improve system reliability. These are in-service tasks spanning multiple types of machinery, rather than the delivery of a single new system.

The Navy estimates that 80% of the work will take place at Trident’s Kingsford facility and 20% at government locations. Those locations include Norfolk, San Diego, Mayport, Philadelphia, Pearl Harbor and Marinette, as well as sites in Japan, Singapore and Guam. The Philadelphia division’s broader fleet-support role includes in-service engineering for ship machinery.

Award and Contractor Background

The Navy awarded the hybrid supply and level-of-effort services contract without a full-and-open competition, citing its authority to limit sources. The contract combines cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price work, with additional work to be funded through individual orders.

Trident has also received Navy orders for related shipboard equipment. A Military Sealift Command crane purchase has a potential value of $4.8 million and a performance end date in October 2026. A separate stern-ramp parts order, valued at about $149,000, has a performance end date in October 2026. Both concern equipment categories included in the new support requirement.
