SRC Wins $500 Million Army Domestic Shield Counter-Drone Contract

SRC Inc. of Syracuse, New York, has won an Army contract worth up to $500 million to provide commercial counter-unmanned aircraft systems and counter-small-unmanned aircraft systems capabilities. The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award gives the Army a way to place orders for counter-drone equipment as requirements arise; work locations will be determined by those orders. Army Contracting Command awarded the contract on Sept. 28, 2026, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 27, 2029. The Army has identified the award as part of its Domestic Shield counter-drone contracting effort.

Counter-Drone Contract Details

SRC will provide counter-UAS capabilities under individual Army orders rather than a single, predetermined equipment purchase. The award notice covers both commercial counter-UAS capabilities and capabilities aimed specifically at small drones. It does not identify a particular SRC system or establish equipment quantities; those details will depend on subsequent orders.

The contract is one of the purchasing vehicles supporting the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 C-UAS Marketplace. The Army describes the marketplace as a way for buyers to select layered detection and defeat capabilities suited to their needs, using open-architecture standards to support interoperability. Its announcement describes equipment categories across the detect-to-defeat chain, but does not assign a specific category or product to SRC.

Domestic Shield and C-UAS Marketplace Background

Domestic Shield prioritizes protection of U.S.-based defense facilities and assets from drones. JIATF-401, established in August 2025 to coordinate small-drone defenses, is using the marketplace to give customers access to multiple suppliers rather than a single proprietary system. The Army said the latest round included 10 multiple-award contracts, with ceilings ranging from $150 million to $500 million.

The SRC award follows other JIATF-401 counter-drone acquisitions. In July 2026, the Army announced a separate $500 million-ceiling Domestic Shield contract with CACI covering fixed-site and mobile counter-drone capabilities; its first task order was for SkyValor solutions. Earlier in 2026, the task force announced a purchase of two DroneHunter F700 systems under Replicator 2. Together, the actions illustrate the range of acquisition approaches the task force is using to address drone threats.

Award and Contractor Background

The Army received 50 bids for SRC’s contract. The $500 million figure is the contract’s potential value, not the value of equipment ordered at award.

SRC has also performed Army counter-drone work through other awards. A $67 million order for engineering support covered enhancements to the Fixed Site Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Integrated Defeat System, or FS-LIDS, with a potential performance end in December 2025. A separate $46.4 million support order, with a potential performance end in February 2026, covered sustainment and contractor logistics support for FS-LIDS and its mobile counterpart, M-LIDS. Those awards document SRC’s prior work on Army counter-drone systems, while the new contract provides a broader ordering vehicle for commercial capabilities.
