Raytheon Wins $58 Million Navy Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Launcher Contract

Raytheon was awarded a $57.8 million firm-fixed-price contract to provide Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Mod 5 Guided Missile Launching System requirements and spares for the U.S. Navy and a foreign military sale to Canada. Naval Sea Systems Command awarded the contract Sept. 25, 2026. Work is expected to be completed by November 2030.

Rolling Airframe Missile Launcher Details

Raytheon will supply Mod 5 launching-system equipment and spares, rather than RAM missile rounds. The launcher is part of the shipboard equipment used to deploy the short-range defensive missile. The Navy’s RAM fact file identifies the Mk 49 Guided Missile Launching System and SeaRAM as two ways the missile is deployed.

The largest shares of contract work will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, and Ottobrunn, Germany, accounting for 41% and 31%, respectively. Work is also planned in Saint Petersburg, Florida; Joplin, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Dallas, Texas; Commerce, California; and other U.S. locations. Canada accounts for $28.1 million of the funding obligated at award, reflecting the contract’s mix of U.S. Navy and foreign military sales production.

Rolling Airframe Missile Program Background

RAM is a quick-reaction missile intended to defend ships against anti-ship cruise missiles and other air and surface threats. According to the Navy, RAM systems are deployed on more than 100 ships, ranging from patrol craft to aircraft carriers. The Navy’s fiscal 2026 weapons procurement request also planned alterations to Block 1 and Block 2 missile-round packages, with first deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028. Those plans concern the rounds; this award covers launching-system requirements and spares.

Award and Contractor Background

Raytheon has received earlier awards for Mod 5 launching systems and spares. A December 2020 award initially valued at $20.46 million covered U.S. Navy requirements. A June 2023 modification added $57.27 million for U.S. and German Navy requirements, and a July 2025 modification added $74 million for launching systems and spares. The earlier contract record describes production, assembly, testing and delivery of launchers, spares and associated hardware for U.S. and foreign navies.

The September 2026 award is a new contract for the same launcher-system category. The government award notice did not state a proposal count.
