RADA Wins Up to $500 Million Army Counter-Drone Contract for Domestic Shield

RADA Technologies LLC of Germantown, Maryland, has been awarded a firm-fixed-price Army contract worth up to $500 million for commercial counter-unmanned aircraft systems, including capabilities to counter small drones. The indefinite-delivery contract allows the Army to place orders for specific needs; work locations will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, awarded the contract Sept. 28, 2026, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 27, 2029.

Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Contract Details

RADA will provide counter-drone capabilities as the Army places orders under the contract. The award notice does not identify particular RADA systems, quantities or delivery milestones. Those details, along with where work will take place, will be set through individual orders rather than the initial award.

The contract is part of a broader Army effort to acquire commercially available tools against unmanned aircraft. In its announcement of the counter-UAS awards, the Army described a marketplace spanning detection and defeat technologies, including radars, tracking cameras, optical sights and automated weapon stations. That description covers the marketplace as a whole, not a specified configuration under RADA’s contract.

Domestic Shield Background

The Army said the awards support Domestic Shield, an effort to protect risk-prioritized Defense Department facilities and assets in the United States, as well as other counter-drone requirements. Joint Interagency Task Force 401 coordinates the department’s counter-small-UAS work. The Army’s marketplace approach is intended to give buyers access to different commercial capabilities as threats and site requirements vary, rather than prescribe one system for every location.

Award and Contractor Background

The Army solicited bids online and received 50. RADA was among 10 companies named in the Army’s September 2026 counter-UAS award announcement. A separate Army purchase of RPS-42, RPS-82 and RPS 202 systems associated with RADA carried a potential value of $30.6 million and a potential performance end date in July 2026. The new award notice does not identify those systems as products to be supplied under this contract.
