Northrop Grumman Wins $14 Million Contract for B-2 Alarm Controls

Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. has received an estimated $14.2 million firm-fixed-price contract to manufacture B-2 alarm controls for the Air Force. Defense Logistics Agency Weapons Support at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, made the sole-source award. The three-year contract is scheduled for completion by Dec. 31, 2029, according to the award notice.

B-2 Alarm Control Details

Northrop Grumman will produce seven alarm-control units identified in the acquisition justification as part DAF3231P005E. The purchase is for a fixed quantity of the specified component, rather than a broader B-2 systems-development effort.

The justification identifies Northrop Grumman as the approved source for the part. It says other companies make similar items, but the government has not identified another source with the technical data rights needed to meet this requirement. The document also says the requirement cannot be met with a commercial substitute and that reverse engineering the part would be uneconomical.

B-2 Program Background

The alarm-control purchase comes as the Air Force continues to sustain and upgrade the B-2 fleet. In a 2025 program update, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center described work on satellite communications, software and aircraft survivability. The available award documents do not associate the alarm controls with a particular upgrade.

Award and Contractor Background

DLA limited this acquisition to Northrop Grumman as the only known capable source. The sole-source justification says two searches for potential suppliers in 2024 drew no responses. It also records a subsequent request for technical data rights that did not result in their release.

Northrop Grumman has other B-2 work, including a five-year Air Force sustainment and modernization award announced in May 2024 with a ceiling of up to $7 billion. Its B-2 parts work also includes a $134.1 million tailpipe production order scheduled for completion in 2028.
