Napatree Technology Wins $500 Million Army Counter-Drone Contract

Napatree Technology of McLean, Virginia, won a U.S. Army contract worth up to $500 million to provide commercial counter-unmanned aerial system and counter-small unmanned aerial system capabilities. Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal awarded the contract on Sept. 28, 2026. The Army will determine work locations as it places orders and estimates that performance will run through Sept. 28, 2029.

Counter-UAS Contract Details

Napatree will supply counter-drone capabilities through a contract that allows the Army to place orders as needs arise. The award notice does not identify a particular Napatree system or an initial delivery quantity. In a Sept. 29 announcement, the Army placed the new awards within Joint Interagency Task Force 401’s C-UAS Marketplace, an effort to move commercial technologies into use to protect U.S. defense facilities and assets.

The marketplace is designed to give the military access to capabilities informed by testing and operational requirements. The Army said open-architecture standards should help new technologies connect with existing defense networks. Its counter-small UAS budget justification describes a broader layered approach to detecting, tracking, classifying and defeating small drones using electronic warfare, command and control, and other defensive systems. The award notice does not assign those individual functions to Napatree.

Award and Contractor Background

The Army received 50 bids for Napatree’s contract. It was one of 10 vendor awards described in the Army’s marketplace announcement; their contract ceilings ranged from $150 million to $500 million. The ceilings represent ordering capacity, while funding for Napatree’s work will be determined with each order.

Napatree has also received an Army contract worth up to $265.4 million for supplies and services involving AS3 Surveyor drones, Bumblebee V1 and V2 systems, and Hornets. A separate prototype agreement worth up to $1.9 million covers a military application of commercially available AS3 interceptor drones. Those awards provide context for Napatree’s counter-drone work, but the new contract does not identify which of the company’s systems the Army will order.
