MSI Defence Systems US has received a $197 million firm-fixed-price Navy contract to provide MK88 MOD4 gun mounts, MK48 MOD2 electro-optical sights, associated hardware and spares. Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division awarded the contract, with deliveries expected to be completed by January 2031.

MK88 MOD4 Gun Mount and MK48 MOD2 Sight Details

MSI will supply the gun mounts and sights as part of one production award, along with hardware and spare parts for the equipment. The Navy’s acquisition notice describes MSI as the original designer, developer and only manufacturer of the MK88 gun mount system. It says the system has been tested and installed aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard platforms.

The hardware supports the Navy’s shipboard 30mm gun capability. A NAVSEA Warfare Center fact sheet identifies the MK88 MOD4 mount and MK48 MOD2 sight among systems used in a gun-system demonstration, alongside the MK160 fire control system and MK38 MOD4 gun console. Contract work will take place primarily in Norfolk, United Kingdom, which accounts for 73% of the work, with the remainder in Rock Hill, South Carolina; Bozeman, Montana; and Eagleville, Pennsylvania.

Award and Contractor Background

The Navy did not compete the award. Its notice identifies the contract as follow-on production after MSI successfully completed prototype work under an other transaction agreement. The acquisition notice also identifies MSI as the only qualified supplier of the gun mounts.

The award is substantially larger than MSI’s $34.6 million gun-mount contract awarded in 2025. That contract covers 18 MK88 MOD4 mounts, nine maintenance assistance module kits and 20 onboard repair parts kits, with performance scheduled through December 2026. A separate $23.5 million MK88 MOD4 gun-mount contract had performance scheduled through May 2025. MSI also holds a $19.5 million repair award covering inspection and repair of MK88 MOD4 mounts and MK48 MOD2 sights through December 2027.

This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under N0017426C1009 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
