Marlin Construction Services Inc. of Jackson, New Jersey, has won a $9.8 million firm-fixed-price contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rehabilitate the eastern jetty at Cheesequake Creek’s federal navigation project. The work will take place in Laurence Harbor, New Jersey, and is expected to be completed by April 25, 2028.
Cheesequake Creek Jetty Rehabilitation Details
Marlin will rebuild the eastern jetty to improve protection of the creek’s entrance from Raritan Bay. The Corps said in a 2024 public notice that the structure has settled and shifted since its construction in 1880, reducing its ability to keep sand from shoaling the channel. The project is intended to bring the eastern jetty up to the height of the western jetty.
The Corps’ advance project notice described a proposed jetty 8 feet high, with an 11-foot-wide crest and slopes of 1.5 to 1. That notice also anticipated excavating approximately 17,832 cubic yards of material to a depth of 9 feet below mean lower low water. Those figures describe the earlier planned scope rather than confirmed final construction quantities.
The advance notice flagged potential excavation and disposal requirements near a Superfund site, as well as restrictions on when work can occur to protect the environment. The jetty protects an approximately 1,600-foot federal channel used by the Coast Guard and by five marinas with more than 600 slips, according to a Corps project fact sheet.
Award and Contractor Background
The Corps received 12 bids for the work. Its earlier advance notice estimated the project would cost between $10 million and $15 million; Marlin’s award came in below that planning range. A May 2025 Corps industry-day presentation had projected construction from July 2026 to January 2027. The award notice now sets an estimated completion date of April 25, 2028.
This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under W912DS27CA001 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
