Leidos Awarded $20 Million Air Force Munitions Research Contract

The Air Force Research Laboratory announced it has awarded Leidos a contract for advanced research supporting munition readiness, with a ceiling of $20 million over an ordering period extending through Aug. 14, 2031. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers work in Reston, Virginia, and at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
Work to be Completed Under the Advanced Research for Munition Readiness Contract
The contract provides the Air Force with a flexible vehicle to rapidly explore, mature and demonstrate advanced missile and munitions technologies. Individual efforts can be ordered as research requirements and technology priorities emerge.
Leidos will conduct advanced research intended to support munition readiness. The work may move promising technologies through stages of exploration, maturation and demonstration, helping the Air Force evaluate their potential application to missile and munition systems.
The award was made under Broad Agency Announcement FA8651-22-S-0001, a mechanism used to solicit research proposals addressing specified areas of scientific and technical interest. The Air Force did not obligate funds at the time of the IDIQ award; funding may be provided through future orders.
Performance will take place at Leidos’ location in Reston and at Eglin Air Force Base. The Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin is the contracting activity for contract FA865126DB003.
The ordering period is expected to conclude Aug. 14, 2031. The contract’s $20 million ceiling establishes the maximum potential value of orders and does not guarantee that the full amount will be obligated.

The company has also received Air Force work involving artificial intelligence, deep learning and machine learning for munitions autonomous target acquisition. That separate award was valued at approximately $2 million.
This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov once disclosed by the government in approximately 90 days under FA865126DB003 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
