The U.S. Air Force announced it has awarded a contract for digital transformation for industrial modernization to Illumination Works, valued at up to $97 million (about $97M) over approximately 12 years. The award is a firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, with work to be performed at several Air Logistics Complexes and Wright Patterson Air Force Base, under a sole source Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III set-aside.

Work to be Completed Under Digital Transformation for Industrial Modernization Contract

The contract provides for a hybrid approach to integrative solutions supporting the Air Force’s ongoing digital transformation efforts. Specifically, Illumination Works will deliver services and technologies related to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Enterprise Platforms, Data Analytics as a Service (DAaaS), Solution Factory, and Positive Inventory Control Fusion.

Key elements of the work include:

  • IIoT Enterprise Platforms: Developing and integrating connected systems to enable real-time monitoring, data collection, and automation across industrial assets.
  • Data Analytics as a Service: Providing advanced analytics capabilities to process large volumes of operational data, driving insights for maintenance, logistics, and supply chain optimization.
  • Solution Factory: Establishing an innovation hub to rapidly prototype and deploy digital solutions tailored to the unique needs of Air Force logistics operations.
  • Positive Inventory Control Fusion: Implementing systems that enhance inventory accuracy and accountability through digital tracking and fusion of data sources.

The work will be carried out at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, Ogden Air Logistics Complex, Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and associated geographically separated units. The contract is expected to run through August 31, 2036.

This award is part of the Air Force’s broader push to modernize its industrial base through digital transformation initiatives. By leveraging emerging technologies such as IIoT and advanced analytics, the service aims to improve readiness, efficiency, and resilience across its sustainment enterprise.
