The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, announced it has awarded a contract for the construction of a KC-46A Two-Bay Maintenance/Fuel Cell Hangar to Harper Construction worth $132.6 million over approximately four years. The firm-fixed-price contract will be performed at March Air Reserve Base, California.
Work to be Completed Under KC-46A Two-Bay Maintenance/Fuel Cell Hangar Contract
According to the award notice, the project involves the construction of a specialized hangar facility designed to support the maintenance and fuel cell operations for the KC-46A Pegasus aircraft at March Air Reserve Base in California. The contract includes both base and accepted option items, bringing the total cumulative face value to $134.4 million.
The KC-46A Pegasus is a military aerial refueling and strategic military transport aircraft developed for the U.S. Air Force. The new two-bay hangar will provide essential infrastructure for maintaining these advanced aircraft, supporting both routine and specialized maintenance as well as fuel cell repairs. The original solicitation is available here.
The hangar facility will enhance operational readiness at March Air Reserve Base by providing modernized space for maintenance crews and equipment. This investment is part of a broader effort by the Department of Defense to upgrade and expand critical infrastructure supporting next-generation military aircraft.
Bids for this project were solicited online, with four proposals received before selection. The absence of a set-aside indicates that the competition was open to all qualified contractors, rather than being limited to small businesses or other specific categories.
