General Dynamics Electric Boat has received a $14.5 million Navy contract action for the USS Idaho (SSN 799) post-delivery work period. The action, issued under an existing submarine contract, covers work in Groton, Connecticut, expected to be completed by December 2027. The Navy described the award as undefinitized, meaning its final terms have yet to be settled.

USS Idaho Post-Delivery Work Period Details

Electric Boat will perform work associated with Idaho’s post-delivery period in Groton. The award notice does not identify individual work packages, equipment or ship systems, so it does not establish which repairs, alterations or tests the $14.5 million action will cover.

The work follows two milestones in the submarine’s transition to service. The Navy accepted delivery of Idaho on Dec. 15, 2025, transferring the boat from the shipbuilder to Navy control while tests and trials continued. Idaho was commissioned on April 25, 2026; the contracted work period extends beyond that date.

Virginia-Class Program Background

Idaho is a Block IV Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine. According to the Navy, it is the 26th Virginia-class boat produced through the Electric Boat–Newport News Shipbuilding teaming arrangement, the 14th delivered by Electric Boat and the eighth of 10 Block IV submarines. This award concerns an already-delivered boat, rather than construction of a new submarine.

Electric Boat also holds a separate Virginia-class lead-yard award covering design data, ship specifications and engineering support through construction and post-shakedown availability. That broader award provides program context but does not identify the tasks funded by the Idaho action.

Award and Contractor Background

The Navy issued the Idaho action through the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair in Groton. Electric Boat previously received a $37.35 million modification under the same contract in December 2018 to procure mechanical and electronic onboard repair parts for Massachusetts (SSN 798) and Idaho. Those parts were intended to be stored aboard the submarines for use at sea; the Idaho portion was then expected to be completed by August 2022.

This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under N0002412C2115 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
