General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has received a $38.8 million U.S. Air Force contract to provide sustainment services and contractor logistics support for Taiwan’s MQ-9B SkyGuardian aircraft. The award is a Foreign Military Sale to Taiwan, with the full amount obligated at award. Work will be performed in Poway, California, and is expected to be completed by Aug. 31, 2029. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center awarded the contract on Oct. 1, 2026, through a sole-source acquisition.

Taiwan MQ-9B Contractor Logistics Support Details

General Atomics will provide contractor logistics support as Taiwan brings its MQ-9B aircraft into service. The Air Force’s award notice describes the work as sustainment and logistics support but does not break it down into specific maintenance, repair or supply deliverables.

The work supports a four-aircraft system that also includes two certifiable ground control stations, spares and support equipment under Taiwan’s MQ-9B production contract. That procurement encompasses communications and computing equipment, simulators, engineering support and cyber hardening. Taiwan’s defense ministry reported a ceremony for its first two aircraft in March 2026 and said the remaining two were planned for delivery in 2027.

Award and Contractor Background

The new support award follows a May 2023 Air Force award to General Atomics for Taiwan’s four MQ-9B aircraft, two ground control stations, spares and support equipment. That sole-source procurement was announced with a ceiling of $217.6 million. The current award extends logistics support into 2029 as deliveries proceed.

A separate Taiwan MQ-9B logistics contract record lists $2.4 million in potential value for contractor logistics support activities and spares procurement and management, with performance extending through July 2029. The Air Force described the $38.8 million award as a sole-source acquisition.

This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under FA868926CB006 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
