G & G Steel Wins $12 Million Cannelton Locks Culvert Valve Contract

G & G Steel of Russellville, Alabama, has received an $11.5 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract action to remove, fabricate, deliver and install culvert valve assemblies for the main chamber at Cannelton Locks and Dam in Indiana. The firm-fixed-price contract has a total cumulative face value of up to $14.6 million and an estimated completion date of Nov. 8, 2030. The award was set aside for small businesses.

Cannelton Culvert Valve Details

G & G Steel will remove two existing culvert valve assemblies and fabricate, deliver and install two replacements in Cannelton’s 1,200-foot main lock chamber. The work covers installation of the assemblies, rather than parts delivery alone. The Corps will determine work locations with individual orders.

The valves are part of the main chamber’s water-control system. According to the Corps’ facility description, Cannelton sits on the Ohio River near Cannelton, Indiana, and has a 110-by-1,200-foot main chamber and a 110-by-600-foot auxiliary chamber. The valve replacement addresses existing lock infrastructure; the Corps also reported separate repairs to Cannelton’s upper emergency gates in July 2026.

Award and Contractor Background

The Corps received three bids for the culvert-valve contract. G & G Steel has also received Corps work involving other navigation-lock components, including a $3.5 million order to fabricate, test, paint and deliver two culvert valves for McAlpine Locks and Dam in Louisville, Kentucky. That order has a potential performance end date in September 2029.

Another Corps order valued at up to $39 million calls for G & G Steel to fabricate, assemble and deliver a two-leaf upstream miter gate and associated equipment for Markland Locks and Dam, with a potential performance end date in August 2028. The McAlpine valve order is the closer technical comparison to the newly awarded Cannelton work, which additionally calls for removal and installation at the lock.
