The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, announced it has awarded a contract for dredging services to Curtin Maritime worth $28.4 million, with a total cumulative face value of $32.6 million over the course of the project. The firm-fixed-price contract will be performed in Houston, Texas. Six bids were received for this unrestricted procurement.

Work to be Completed Under Dredging Contract

The newly awarded contract tasks Curtin Maritime with executing dredging operations in Houston, Texas. This work is critical to maintaining navigable waterways and supporting the region’s commercial shipping activities. The scope includes removal of sediment and debris from designated channels to ensure safe and efficient maritime transit.

Dredging is an essential component of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mission to maintain federal navigation channels at authorized depths. In Houston—a major hub for shipping and energy industries—regular dredging helps prevent silt buildup that can impede vessel movement and increase the risk of groundings or accidents.

The project is scheduled for completion by May 28, 2026.

This contract continues the Corps’ ongoing efforts to support economic activity and safety along the Texas Gulf Coast. Maintenance dredging not only benefits commercial shipping but also plays a role in flood risk management and environmental stewardship by improving water flow and reducing erosion.

While specific technical details about the dredging methods or equipment were not disclosed in the award notice, projects of this nature typically involve specialized vessels such as hopper or mechanical dredges. The work may also include disposal or beneficial reuse of dredged material in accordance with environmental regulations.
