Canadian Commercial Corp. Wins $40 Million Navy 57mm Target-Practice Cartridge Contract

Canadian Commercial Corp. of Ottawa has won a U.S. Navy contract worth up to $40 million to supply 57mm target-practice cartridges, with the work subcontracted to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada. The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award covers manufacture, assembly, testing and delivery of ammunition used for training and ship-qualification testing with the MK 110 gun mount. Work will take place in Repentigny, Québec, and is expected to be completed by September 2031. Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division made the award.

57mm Target Practice Cartridges Details

General Dynamics will produce an electrically primed cartridge with a fully inert projectile, a brass case containing propellant and an electric primer. The Navy’s solicitation calls for the cartridges to function in the MK 110 gun mount and sets a minimum purchase of 1,500 rounds. Individual orders can range from 1,500 to 18,000 rounds. The Navy says the MK 110 is installed on Littoral Combat Ships and was selected for Coast Guard Legend-class National Security Cutters.

Production includes first-article and lot-acceptance testing. The solicitation calls for a 114-cartridge first-article test sample, followed by 80 additional cartridges built and tested for orders of 1,500 to 9,000 rounds, or 160 for larger orders. The contractor will also package the accepted ammunition for delivery.

The work includes two explosive-ordnance-disposal training devices: one Classroom EOD System Trainer and one Practical EOD System Trainer. General Dynamics will manufacture, assemble, pack and deliver one of each, alongside the cartridge production covered by the 57mm target-practice procurement.

Award and Contractor Background

The Navy received three offers in the competition. A pre-solicitation notice described a planned single-award contract covering cartridge components, loading, assembly, packaging and acceptance testing, with orders to be placed as needed. The formal solicitation was issued in April 2026. Canadian Commercial Corp. holds the award, while General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada is the named subcontractor performing the cartridge work.
