Boeing has received an Air Force contract worth up to $31.9 million to provide customer logistics support for the NATO Airlift Management Programme’s C-17 weapon-system trainer. The three-year award supports the trainer at Pápa Air Base, Hungary, with work expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2029. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is contracting for the work through a Foreign Military Sales arrangement with NATO.
C-17 Trainer Support Details
Boeing will provide customer logistics support for the weapon-system trainer used by the NATO Airlift Management Programme at Pápa. The award covers the training system rather than the purchase or production of C-17 aircraft.
The trainer is located at the operating base of the multinational Heavy Airlift Wing, which flies the programme’s C-17 fleet. Boeing’s support will run for three years; the award notice does not identify individual trainer components or specific maintenance deliverables.
Strategic Airlift Capability Background
The NATO Airlift Management Programme manages and supports the Strategic Airlift Capability, a 12-nation arrangement built around three C-17 aircraft based at Pápa. Participating countries share access to the aircraft for national missions and international operations. The fleet reached full operational capability in 2012.
Training infrastructure at the base has recently expanded: a C-17 aircrew training and simulator building opened at Pápa in May 2025. The trainer-support award concerns the same base’s training capability, although the available award information does not identify the equipment housed in that building.
Award and Contractor Background
The new contract combines firm-fixed-price and cost-reimbursement terms, with $23.3 million obligated at award. Boeing also holds a broader C-17 sustainment contract awarded in September 2021 with a maximum value of about $23.8 billion. That Air Force award covers worldwide logistics, engineering and depot maintenance, as well as support for foreign customers that include the NATO Airlift Management Program Office.
This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under FA862127CB002 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
