BAE Systems Maritime Solutions Jacksonville LLC has received a Navy contract for the fiscal 2027 docking restricted availability of USS Thomas Hudner, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. The company will prepare for and carry out maintenance, modernization and repairs during the ship’s scheduled Chief of Naval Operations availability in Mayport, Florida. Naval Sea Systems Command awarded an initial $796,146 firm-fixed-price contract action with a total potential value of up to $106.8 million. Work is expected to be completed by January 2028.
USS Thomas Hudner Docking Restricted Availability Details
BAE Systems will provide the labor, supervision, equipment and facilities needed to perform the availability. Its scope also covers production, testing and quality assurance for the ship’s maintenance, modernization and repair work. The award describes a docking availability for Thomas Hudner, rather than continuing maintenance across a group of ships.
The work will take place in Mayport, where Thomas Hudner is homeported. The award notice identifies the availability’s broad repair and modernization scope but does not name particular ship systems to be upgraded. The Navy reported that the destroyer returned to Mayport from a deployment spanning the 4th, 5th and 6th Fleet areas in 2026.
Award and Contractor Background
The Navy awarded the contract on Oct. 9, 2026, after a competitive solicitation that drew one proposal. A Navy budget document had listed an earlier, privately performed selected restricted availability for Thomas Hudner in Jacksonville from April to July 2024, with a planned amount of about $6.8 million. That figure is a budget entry, rather than a reported final contract value.
BAE Systems Maritime Solutions Jacksonville has also received Navy destroyer-availability work on other ships. Its fiscal 2025 USS The Sullivans docking selected restricted availability contract has a potential value of about $118.9 million and covers maintenance, modernization and repair. That award provides a comparison for the scale of the Thomas Hudner work, although each ship has its own availability requirements.
This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under N0002427C4438 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
