American Systems Corp. of McLean, Virginia, has won a firm-fixed-price task order worth up to $43.3 million to sustain the U.S. Space Force’s Red Local Area Network, or Red LAN. Awarded by Space Systems Command, the order covers continued operation and maintenance of the system, including additions that provide and receive data. Work will be performed at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado, and is expected to be completed by September 29, 2031.

Red LAN Sustainment Details

Red LAN is a secure system for receiving, processing and distributing space domain awareness data. According to Space Systems Command’s market-research notice, it also supports integration and operational testing of sensor mission data across classification levels through cross-domain capabilities. Its separate operational instances each have redundant hardware strings and can independently disseminate data for U.S. Space Command’s space domain awareness and orbital warfare missions.

American Systems will maintain the hardware and software needed for continuous, round-the-clock data processing and distribution. The sustainment scope described in the notice includes engineering and anomaly resolution, modifications and upgrades, and maintenance designed to keep sensor data flowing without loss during maintenance periods.

The work also encompasses depot-level hardware and software support, inventory and configuration management, and management of technical data and depot support facilities. Cybersecurity sustainment, security management and accreditation of classified communications and network access form part of the support needed to keep the operational system in service.

Award and Contractor Background

Space Systems Command received 16 offers in the competitive acquisition. The command had described the contemplated effort as follow-on Red LAN sustainment in 2024 market research and conducted another round of market research in 2025 before this award.
