HMMWV Procurement Contract Details
Army Contracting Command–Detroit Arsenal awarded the contract, identified as W912CH-26-F-A172, on Aug. 13, 2026. The Army solicited one bid through the internet and received one response.
The acquisition will support continued procurement of HMMWVs, a family of light tactical vehicles used to transport personnel and equipment and to carry command-and-control, communications, weapons, medical, maintenance and other specialized payloads. Specific work locations and funding will be established as the Army issues orders under the contract.
The award comes as the Army balances tactical vehicle modernization with the continuing operational needs of its large HMMWV fleet. The platform remains in service across active-duty, Army Reserve and Army National Guard formations, supported by an established logistics network and a broad range of mission-specific variants.
Recent Army budget materials have particularly connected new HMMWV procurement and modernization for the National Guard with replacing older vehicles that are not armor-capable. Those vehicles also support homeland defense, domestic emergency response and military assistance to civil authorities, providing a continuing mission for the platform as the Army reviews its broader light tactical vehicle portfolio.
AM General’s HMMWV Role
South Bend, Indiana-based AM General is the established manufacturer of the HMMWV and continues to support the platform through production, engineering, parts and lifecycle activities. The latest award is part of that continuing acquisition and sustainment activity rather than the introduction of a new vehicle supplier.
The single-bid result reflects the concentrated production base for the HMMWV. Public contracting information identifies AM General as the incumbent producer associated with current HMMWV production and support, and no competing production source was identified for this requirement.
This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov in approximately 90 days under W912CH26FA172 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
