Alta Enterprises Awarded $12.3 Million Army CNC Equipment Contract

The Army Contracting Command – Aberdeen Proving Ground announced it has awarded a contract for computer numerical control (CNC) multi-axis turning centers and Kobra 20SLY-X CNC Swiss-type turning centers to Alta Enterprises worth $12.3 million over approximately three years. The firm-fixed-price contract will be performed in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, with no set-aside specified.

Work to be Completed Under CNC Equipment Contract

According to the Intent to Sole Source Special Notice, this contract aims to establish domestic manufacturing capability for critical small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) motor components at Tobyhanna Army Depot. The equipment procured will enable the production of items such as rotor caps, rotor sleeves, motor bases, motor shafts, and thrust washers—components vital for sUAS operations.

The contract covers the delivery and installation of:

• 16 Eurotech BMX45-SY2 Rapido CNC Turning Centers
• 4 Eurotech Kobra 20SLY-X Swiss Lathes
• Associated bar feeders (LNS Alpha 552 & FMB Mini Mag), high-pressure coolant systems, mist collectors, and parts collectors

The Army determined that only Eurotech CNC machinery provided by Alta Enterprises could meet its requirements due to several factors. These include avoiding an estimated $3.1 million in unrecoverable costs over five years if an alternative vendor were chosen—costs stemming from retraining, implementation delays, and increased maintenance of a mixed-brand fleet. Maintaining fleet commonality with existing Eurotech machines is also cited as essential for operational efficiency and manageable sustainment.

Additionally, market research by the National Center for Cybersecurity in Manufacturing (MxD) found that Eurotech’s advanced automation allows for necessary production capacity with fewer machines compared to alternatives. This is critical given facility space constraints at Tobyhanna Army Depot; alternative solutions would require more machines and an estimated additional 1,000 square feet of space.

Cybersecurity compliance was another key consideration. Eurotech’s commitment to a "Vendor STIG Development Process" ensures adherence to Department of Defense cybersecurity standards. Switching vendors would necessitate restarting the entire security vetting process, potentially delaying mission-critical manufacturing capabilities.

Awardee Background: Alta Enterprises

Alta Enterprises, based in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, specializes in providing advanced CNC machinery solutions for manufacturing applications. The company has previously supplied similar equipment to the Army Contracting Command at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Notably, Alta Enterprises was awarded a $246,900 contract in April 2025 for a CNC lathe machine replacement (W51AA125P0041). Another recent contract includes a $1 million award for a computer numerically controlled horizontal machining center (W51AA126PA028). These prior awards underscore Alta Enterprises’ ongoing role in supporting the Army’s precision manufacturing needs at Tobyhanna.

This award was disclosed by the DoW in its daily press release. Additional contract details will be available on HigherGov once disclosed by the government in approximately 90 days under W51AA126CA009 after the contract is formally disclosed by the government.
