Overview

Program Title
USCG - Long Range Communications (COM-LRC)
Description
The LRC Program consists of wireless networks and high frequency (HF) radios used to communicate among USCG cutters, aircraft, areas, districts, and sectors. The Program includes the Customs Over the Horizon Enforcement Network (COTHEN), Voice Encryption Units, and HF Radios. HF radios are the backbone of tactical, secure long range comms for aircraft and cutters in the Artic. COTHEN subsystems are used in law enforcement missions. For many USCG assets, these units are the sole means of long range secure comms. Regarding value to the public, Long Range Comms is vital to the Coast Guard s missions of Ports Waterways & Coastal Security (PWCS), Drug Interdiction, National Defense, and Search and Rescue (SAR). In FY18 there was a 52% reduction of all maritime security risk subject to CG influence. Additionally, the CG removed $6.1 billion worth of drugs. Considering drug interdiction alone, the Program has a ROI of over $1,000 in removed drugs per dollar spent on the Program.
