The Pharmacy Outpatient Automation Solution-iA provides pharmacy workflow management and automated medication fulfillment technologies. Activities associated with the storage, dispensing and distribution of medications are supported through the capabilities to track movement accurately throughout the dispensing process. POAS-I maintains detailed transaction information, which enables increased security, accuracy, and accountability of medications. Patient safety enhancements that reduce the risk of medication errors are realized through the utilization of embedded checks and balances employed within the pharmacy workflow management software. Standardized workflows increase productivity and efficiencies associated with the medication dispensing process, which facilitates a culture focused on direct patient care. In addition, the POAS-I integrates tele-pharmacy videoconferencing technology with pharmacy operations management software. System elements can be located at both central pharmacy and remote tele-pharmacy sites permitting pharmacists at central pharmacies access a patient's medication profile and perform a prospective drug utilization review by computer on each prescription before dispensing to the patient at a remote site. Through use of tele-pharmacy technology, remote pharmacy services provide the same quality standards used in traditional pharmacy practice including pharmacist prescription verification before dispensing, drug utilization review, and patient education counseling. Pharmacists using telecommunications technology can systematically provide personalized electronically documented, real-time professional services to patients at a remote location, including prescription dispensing and counseling, and supervise remote pharmacy operations.
