This investment includes the Enterprise Data Management Program for the Department. In accordance with the Open, Public, Electronic, and Necessary (OPEN) Government Data Act of 2018, the OCIO Directive 2022-001, Open Data and Enterprise Data Inventory Requirements, dated October 12, 2021, established the DOI Enterprise Data Inventory as the official metadata repository for DOI data assets. This directive requires bureaus and offices to create a metadata record in the inventory for all data assets. Inventorying datasets is a foundational activity for developing a comprehensive, accurate approach to categorizing and tagging data, critical to a zero-trust architecture. The program received its first year of dedicated funding in FY2023.
