Investment Detail
Key benefits of this investment are that it provides mapping and geospatial information through the use of attributes such as zip code, country code, elevation, natural features and other special measures. In addition, recent accomplishments have expanded the benefits of this investment. 1) FLIGHT (In Beta Testing) Used by Air Tanker Base and Helibase managers to document and track aircraft usage, including aircraft type, contract number, charge code, flight hours, gallons of retardant loaded and used, gallons (weight) of fuel loaded, and mission types. 2) Data Management Tools new tools and interfaces allow Government staff to update and document sources of data that is displayed in the EGP (e.g., metadata about the data itself and the services). 3) BLM Lightning Integrate real time lightning data services within EGP, displaying the past 24 hours of lightning as individual strikes.
4) AFUE support Aerial Fire Fighting Use and Effectiveness tracks and monitors tanker drops on wildland fires. EGP provides the web and database services that support field units as well as online and offline data capture capabilities by AFUE Modules. 5) Short Haul The USFS implemented Short Haul capable modules for fire season 2016 and needed a system to allow the modules to status, update, and display their locations in real time. The EGP has worked with the Short Haul crews to implement a module that provides a simple interface for modules leads to status and update their capabilities and then this information is provided as a REST endpoint and spatially displayed within the EGP. The Short Haul module is also used by the NPS Short Haul units. 6) FGX / IMT Collector The GIS Services team has successfully recoded the FIMT tool (ICS Mapping Tool) to the FGX tool. The new FGX (Fire Geospatial Exchange) tool works with ESRI Collector, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, and the EGP. This allows fire fighters to map and collect data while in fire operations.
The products and services delivered through the GTAC segment amount to hundreds of millions of dollars in savings resulting from expedited emergency response, focused rehabilitation efforts, a vast reduction in the need for field data collection, assistance in prioritizing field projects, increased employee geospatial knowledge and capacity and reduced training costs, and significantly increased productivity through the availability of state of the art geospatial methods, technologies, services and data/product sources.
TPCM: the user interface and platform rely on commercially available software whose maintenance is covered by the vendor. This reduces cost while providing great value to the agency and the public. TPCM allows the FS to compare spatially specific comments across the US for distinct projects and across time. In addition, the public is provided additional avenues for access to decision making.
