Overview
Program Title
NPS - CR National Register & Landmarks Application
Description
CR National Register & Landmarks Application (NRIS-NHL): The National Register of Historic Places (NRIS) is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act, the NR program coordinates and supports public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources. There are over 100,000 properties that are listed, and each year properties are determined eligible, listed, or removed. Information associated with these properties is stored in a database system known as the National Register Information System (NRIS). National Historic Landmarks (NHLs) are nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. Today, about 2,600 historic places bear this national distinction. NHLs come in many forms: historic buildings, sites.
