Investment Detail
The CDAN consolidated IT platform provides the IT infrastructure, architecture and other technology resources and services for ten legacy and active Studies (projects) across NCSA that previously relied on their own platforms, databases, etc. CDAN supports data acquisitions and data collection projects, as well as the tools to manage and analyze the complex data associated with crash factors. The investment has achieved the operational targets set for first 5 years of full use, which have followed an iterative release cycle. The platform will continue to advance in terms of capability and user experience throughout the BY. The CDAN IT Platform serves to streamline the collection of crash data from states through the electronic State Data Transfer (SDT), which so far has converted 17 US states from paper crash report submittals to direct electronic interfaces with NHTSA, with plans to convert several additional states in the coming years. This has led to significant decreases in processing time for data collection, conversion and analysis, directly improving the amount and quality of data NHTSA has available for rulemaking and policy enhancements.
